Chapter 14

The next morning Sara was awakened by the bright sun streaming in through the two bare windows in the room.

She was on her back and Jack was on his side, still holding her close. She moved and found that she was rather sore in certain areas of her anatomy. She wondered if she’d even be able to ride today.

She looked at him lovingly and ran her hand down his jaw, feeling his rough morning beard. She decided she’d give the horse a try. She didn’t want to disappoint him.

The touch of her hand on his face made him stir. He reached up and took her hand, pulled it to his mouth and placed a sensual kiss on her open palm. His eyes were still closed as he held her hand to his chest.

“Please don’t make me wake up. I’ve caught love’s elusive dream and I don’t want to lose it,” he mumbled.

“It’s not a dream. It’s all very real,” she told him softly.

He opened one eye cautiously and peeked at her. “Do you promise I’m not dreaming?” he whispered, warily.

“I promise.” She smiled.

“I’m glad. There for a minute I wasn’t sure.”

He wrapped her in his arms, pulled her close, and kissed her soundly. “Mmmm…you taste just as good in the morning as you do at night.”

“So do you,” she said, before kissing him again.

When the kiss ended they both stretched and started to get out of bed. Jack threw the covers back, got off the mattress, and stood up. Sara gazed appreciatively at his hard, muscled body. The same body that had loved her so thoroughly last night.

“I’m going to take a quick shower,” he said, bending over and kissing her again. “I won’t take long and then you can have the bathroom and take all the time you need.”

“Okay,” she agreed. She lay back down because of the soreness she felt and closed her eyes. In a few minutes, Jack came back wearing only briefs. He walked up to the bed and kneeled down beside her on one knee. He gently moved her hair off her face and brushed it to the top of her shoulder.

“Sara?” he asked, putting a hand on her arm and shaking her lightly. “You can have the bathroom, now.”

She moaned softly.

“Are you okay, baby?”

“I will be,” she mumbled, half asleep.

“What’s wrong?”

“I just hurt a little. I’ll be alright.”

“Where do you hurt?” His voice sounded panicked.

She opened her eyes and looked at him, placing her open palm on one side of his freshly shaven face. “Where do you think?” she asked, smiling.

“But you told me last night that you were okay,” he said, concerned.

“Last night I was more than okay. I’ve just had a little soreness set in after sleeping.”

“I’m sorry, honey. It’s my fault.”

“It’s no one’s fault and don’t you dare be sorry.”

“But I don’t want you to hurt. Not in any way.”

“From my understanding, it’s just the initial hurt after the first time. Once my body gets used to this sort of activity…” A pretty blush spread across her face.
